BOSTON–(EON: Enhanced Online News)–Equity
Office Properties was certified as a “Sustainable Business Leader”,
having completed the Sustainable Business Leader Program (SBLP) – a
comprehensive program of the Sustainable Business Network (SBN) of
Greater Boston that provides guidance, support and technical assistance
to facilitate the “greening” of small and medium-sized local and
independent businesses.
“Our participation in the SBLP has deepened
our commitment to sustainability as a company.”
Bryan Glascock, Head of the Environment Department, and Jacob Glickel,
the Environment Departments Chief of Staff, represented the City of
Boston. “The SBLP does a great job of connecting small businesses with
environmental programs that are offered by the City, State, and the
utilities,” said Bryan Glascock. “Massachusetts was recently ranked the
most energy efficient state in the country, small businesses that lead
by example are critical to this success.”
In order to earn the SBLP certification, Equity Office completed the
rigorous six-step SBLP process reducing their environmental impact and
carbon footprint. Measurable and significant changes were identified and
implemented in the areas of Energy Efficiency, Water Conservation, Waste
Reduction, Transportation Management, Pollution Prevention, Local
Purchasing and Local Food, and Sustainability Management.
“The Sustainable Business Network is grateful for the support of the
Barr Foundation and the City of Boston Environment Department in
supporting the SBLP, allowing us to reach a diverse range of
Businesses,” said Laury Hammel, Director of SBN. “With ninety four
companies now certified as Sustainable Business Leaders, this program
continues to raise the bar for sustainable business practices in
Massachusetts.” With over 125 participating companies, the SBLP
continues to grow and assist small to medium sized local and independent
businesses in ‘greening’ their operations and practices and reducing
their carbon footprint in the greater Boston area.
Equity Office saw numerous benefits from participation in the program
including financial savings as a result of lowering energy and water
consumption and diverting valuable materials from waste into recycling
and compost. “Through the SBLP we have had great success with getting
employees involved in our green initiatives,” said Ed Slein, Director of
Engineering, Equity Office. “Our participation in the SBLP has deepened
our commitment to sustainability as a company.”
