Roth won’t seek re-election in Salem

SALEM, N.H. — Selectmen’s Chairman Elizabeth Roth will not seek re-election next year.

Roth, a six-year member of the board, told her colleagues at their meeting last week she does not plan to run again. Roth, a lawyer, did not say why she is stepping down, but board members said other commitments weighed heavily in her decision.

Roth became chairman in March.

“I certainly understand the decision to not run for re-election,” Selectman Michael Lyons said. “She is a very strong board member and I’ll miss her.”

Although Roth and Selectman Pat Hargreaves often disagree on issues, Hargreaves said he will miss her, too.

“She is definitely a very classy lady,” Hargreaves said. “She brings a professional lawyer-type attitude.”

Vice chairman Susan Covey is also up for re-election, but has not said if she will run.
