Letter: Thanks to soccer supporters

The board of Jamaica Plain Youth Soccer (JPYS) would like to thank our generous sponsors. Their ever-growing support enables more than 300 local boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 18 to learn fundamental soccer skills, have fun with their friends and perhaps become the next Hope Solo or Lionel Messi.

Jamaica Plain Youth Soccer is a volunteer-run organization that aims to keep its expenses to a minimum and the quality of soccer playing high. JPYS is committed to keeping the program open to all interested youth by maintaining registration fees that are lower than other towns. We also do not exclude anyone who cannot afford to pay. And, as registration fees do not cover all the costs of JPYS (including insurance, equipment, referees and professional coaches at the Academy practices), the sponsors play a critical role in simply keeping the program running.

In years past, JPYS has relied upon the generosity of a small circle of local businesses. They remain committed and we remain indebted to them. Ten long-time sponsors – City Feed and Supply, Doyle’s, J.P. Licks, Morrison’s Auto-Rite, Stanley Tow, Super Flash T-shirts, The Power Company, Bella Luna and the Milky Way, Fresh Hair and Strategy Matters, Inc. – renewed their support this year.

Still, JPYS needed to expand our sponsor outreach this year. Given the state of the economy, we were unsure of how successful we would be. We found the response to be amazing.

More than 50 businesses agreed to sponsor JPYS this year. Sixteen businesses agreed to contribute at the highest level of “Academy” sponsors, with another 15 sponsoring a dozen Travel Teams and other businesses becoming Friends of JPYS.

In this challenging economic environment, Jamaica Plain’s local business and nonprofit community exceeded expectations and delivered, allowing hundreds of our community’s children the ability to enjoy this great sport.

JPYS is truly grateful for our generous sponsors, who keep our program as vibrant as it is. We urge Jamaica Plain residents to recognize and support them.
