Patient feedback is Christmas gift for staff

HOSPITAL staff have been receiving positive feedback from patients thanks to a festive idea from their Ward Sister.

Karen Birch, a Sister on the Bostonian Ward at Pilgrim Hospital, had the idea of asking patients to let them know about how they feel they have been treated by staff and then pinning their messages up on a Christmas tree.

Each nurse, bank staff nurse, member of housekeeping and admin on the ward have each received a couple of personal messages from patients.

Karen said: “The letters are a thank-you to the member of staff concerned for making them feel special while they were in hospital.

“They are personal messages and precious to us because we are proud they felt cared for while they stayed with us.”

She added: “I think it is important to have feedback individually about how staff have contributed to a patient’s stay.

“This is a way of helping them feel positive about what they are delivering and also to help them see that all team members contribute to a patients’ experience.”

Patient Barbara Hays, aged 87, said: “I had a hip replacement a week last Thursday and everything has been wonderful. Everyone has been very kind and I cannot fault anyone.”
