(NECN) – We go on the record with Paul Guzzi, the president and CEO of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce.
Guzzi is discussing MGM’s site in mind for a Massachusetts casino in the western part of the state, wellness in the workplace, the Beige Book and more.
What’s his sense of this particular proposal? Have they chosen a preferred location for the casino?
“The easy answer on the ladder question is no, nor have we chosen or recommended a specific site. There is major interest all through the state, whether it’s western Mass., Foxboro, Suffolk Downs, so there’s a market here and it means more jobs, more revenue” said Guzzi. “As long as it’s done right, I think it’s a net plus for the Massachusetts economy. It’s a new industry here in Massachusetts.”
The City Council has decided not to form a special committee on gambling.
Why did they decide not to do this?
“Not so much a foregone conclusion, the legislation says in the case of Boston, it’s the immediate area that would have a referendum. So there is going to be the voice of the people that is going to be heard via vote,” said Guzzi.
We had positive news from the Beige Book this week.
“It’s one of my favorite books. It is modestly positive. It’s a reflection really of the national scene,” said Guzzi. “Tourism and travel is spiking up, here in New England but also in Massachusetts, and that’s a plus.”
Guzzi also discussed the focus of wellness in the workplace and health care costs.
