Chelsea High School closed by bomb threat

Police searched Chelsea High School today after a bomb threat was discovered on a recorded line. Nothing was found, Chelsea police said.

But before Chelsea police completed their search, school officials decided to dismiss all students for the day around 10:30 a.m., according to police.

Captain Keith Houghton said the message, which was left over the weekend, was discovered by school officials around 8:30 a.m. Houghton described the threat as “a general threat of a bomb,” and said Chelsea police K-9 units conducted a full search of the school.

“It’s safe,’’ he said, adding that the search was completed around 12:30 p.m.

Houghton said the call did not originate in Chelsea or a neighboring city or town, but said Chelsea police are working with another Greater Boston police agency to investigate the threat.

Chelsea High School has 1,353 students in grades nine through 12, according to the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. No further information was immediately available.
