Thanks to 28 points from Dan Powers, Catholic Memorial (13-2) reclaimed the Catholic Conference basketball title with a 74-57 victory over BC High last night at Perry Gymnasium in West Roxbury.
But the game was marred with a cloud of controversy after both benches cleared and fans from both sides came pouring out on the floor at the end of the third quarter.
A Knights player and an Eagles player got tangled up behind the play and got into a shoving match. The fans reacted and poured out onto the court. After the melee, Chris Siggers of Catholic Memorial and BC High’s Mike Corcoran were ejected.
The Knights closed the game by scoring the last 12 points. Powers finished the night with five 3-pointers, two of them coming in the final two-plus minutes.
Greg Bridges turned in a terrific all-around effort, notching 22 points, eight rebounds and eight steals to guide New Mission (11-3) in a 74-59 triumph over Dorchester in Boston City League action. . . . Paul Maurice netted 30 points and 15 rebounds to propel Snowden (6-6) past Fenway, 64-43. . . . Nick Simpson (19 points, eight rebounds) and Malik James (18 points, 10 assists) led Brighton (14-1) to an 82-42 win over CASH. . . . Assisted by 12 points from teammate Sterling Brown, Frederick Olveira put in 18 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead West Roxbury over Burke, 50-35.
In the Commonwealth Athletic Conference, Sammy Mojica poured in 31 points and tore down eight rebounds to shoot Chelsea (11-6) to a 66-40 triumph over Greater Lawrence.
In the Catholic Central League, Devin Thompson scored 31 points to lead St. Mary’s to a 73-57 win over Bishop Fenwick. . . . Malcolm Brown scored 32 points and added 11 steals as Pope John pulled away from St. Clement, 73-62.
Old Rochester (10-5) played its way into the postseason, getting 18 points from Brendan Parker and 15 points and 10 rebounds from Max Risch to knock off Case, 64-54, in the South Coast Conference.
Patrick Burns scored 13 of his game-high 17 points in the first quarter and Lexington (10-6) reached the tournament with a 64-41 triumph against Woburn. . . . Elsewhere in the Middlesex League, Sam Muster tallied 23 points and John Dillon scored 20 points to aid Belmont (8-6) in a 77-66 defeat of Arlington. . . . Kyle Albanese was a force for Wilmington (7-5), scoring 21 points and hauling down 17 rebounds, in a 66-59 victory over Stoneham.
J.J. Jolaoso poured in 25 points while Tim Walsh hit four 3-pointers to help push Attleboro (7-9) to a 63-58 overtime victory over North Attleboro.
In Greater Boston League play, Kevin Silva tallied 24 points and Billy Bonnet had 20 points to give Somerville (9-5) a 74-56 victory over Malden.
Girls basketball
Shantel McIntosh pulled down 15 rebounds and West Roxbury (9-7) beat Burke, 40-32, in Boston City League play. . . . Kiana Daley scored 13 points to lead O’Bryant past Boston English, 64-24.
In Patriot League play, Kiley McDonald scored 19 points and Nicole Lamie added 13 points as Quincy downed Hanover, 44-21.
In the Tri-Valley League, Blake Underhill scored 24 points and went over 1,000 points for her career as Ashland beat Westwood, 54-31.
Allie Doggett netted 10 points and Watertown (10-5) reached the postseason with a 37-32 win over Wakefield.
