FATHER and daughter powerlifters Mike Davies and Nikki Elding both claimed national records and titles at the weekend.
The pair were competing at the World Drug-Free Powerlifting Association’s British Championships at Dudley.
Nikki, 44, won the Masters One bench press and deadlift events.
Her record came in the deadlift, where she successfully tackled 101 kilos.
The Bostonian is also the reigning World deadlift champion and record holder in her category.
Dad Mike, 74, signed off from the Masters Seven category with victory in the deadlift, setting a new record of 140 kilos.
“I was determined to go out on a high,” said Mike, who now moves in to Masters Eight.
Victory was enough for both to qualify for the World Championships in France in June, and the European Championships, which take place in Switzerland in September.
Again, it was a family affair as Chris Elding, Nikki’s husband, and Mike’s wife Maureen were again in attendance to offer coaching advice and help.
