BOSTON – Ready to undertake a $25 million renovation, the YMCA of Greater Boston has retained Jones Lang LaSalle as project manager for the retooling of its 100-year-old building at 316 Huntington Avenue into a contemporary, fully accessible facility.
JLL is already working with the YMCA’s design team, Linea 5 Inc. The goal is to preserve the historic character despite some partial demolition, including an area that now houses a pool and squash courts. The team will consult with the Boston Preservation Alliance, the Boston Landmarks Commission, the Massachusetts Historical Commission, Neighborhood Groups and all other city and state agencies having jurisdiction

The replacement space will house a new handicap accessible pool, gymnasium, and offices. The top-to-bottom redo also calls for the basement, first and second floors to be outfitted with family locker rooms, childcare, exercise room and cafĂ© and a wellness center and studio. The existing lobby’s atrium space will be preserved and its skylight’s roof membrane and panels replaced with insulating glass. The overhaul includes the lobby, reception area and after-school program space as well as multi-purpose meeting and activity space.
