THE One Show is ready for the big shows.
Callum Johnson believes his first-round demolition of Tommy Tolan proves he is a star in the making.
The light heavyweight needed just 90 seconds to finish off the Irishman at Glasgow’s Braehead Arena last Saturday.
But it wasn’t just the emphatic win that makes the 26-year-old Bostonian believe he is capable of forcing his way into contention for a British title shot.
It is also the way he remains unfazed in front of a big crowd.
“There were 5,000 people watching me, and more on TV,” said Johnson, who is nicknamed The One, and dubs his fights The One Show.
“It was the biggest audience I’ve fought in front of in my life.
“But that doesn’t get me nervous. It just gets me going and brings the best out in me.”
The same could be said for when Johnson brought Commonwealth Gold back to Boston in 2010, after succeeding in Delhi.
“There were 2,000 people in the arena that day,” he added.
“But again, it just made me more determined to go out and do it.
“It just shows I’ve got the right mentality to fight in front of big crowds of people.”
Johnson has now set himself a target of five more fights this year as he bids to climb the national rankings.
