Mark Mowers Speaks On Post NHL Playing Days

After playing in Europe for the past four seasons, former Whitesboro native Mark Mowers continues to adapt to no longer lacing up his skates for a living.  And so far, keeping a busy schedule , Mowers appears to have conquered any post playing syndroms that could have ocurred.

Living in the greater Boston area, Mowers continues a new career in hockey with much gusto – as a member of the Boston Bruins broadcast team on the New England Sports Network ( NESN ).

Making his TV debut this past November 1 during the Bruins/Ottawa Senators game, Mowers’ on-air partners are Dale Arnold, former Bruins Barry Pederson and Gord Kluzac, as well as Billy Jaffe ( who you can catch on the MSG Network as well as the Hockey Network ).  With  the exception of a five minute audition tape, Mowers entered the big-time of NHL broadcasting with experieince only that as a player.

The situation for Mowers couldn’t have been more ideal.  Living in the Boston area, having played for the Bruins, and back in the NHL with an original six club, made the transition to the broadcast booth smoother than most ex-players will get to experieince.

‘It has taken a while to get comfortable’, Mowers tells.  But his knowledge of the NHL and many of the players has afforded Mark the confidence he needed to succeed.  Aside from getting to know the younger players in the league, the toughest part, thus far, for Mowers to champion is being critical of the players.  ‘Being so fresh out of the gameI understand that mistakes happen all the time and the last thing I wanted as a player was some hockey analyst telling me how I was making mistakes’.

There are six current Bruins who Mowers had played alongside.
