Mitt Romney’s health care stance drew fire from state treasurer and longtime Democratic Party activist Steven Grossman Tuesday.

The health plan Romney signed into law when he was Republican governor of Massachusetts “has been a great success,” Grossman said during a question-and-answer session that followed a Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce

breakfast.

In an obvious jab related to candidate Romney’s criticism of a similar national plan pushed through Congress by President Barack Obama, Grossman added: “I think Romney was right the first time — when he signed it,”

“Is Romney-care sustainable? An objective analysis will show that the impact on our state budget…has been modest,” Grossman said. “I think we’ve been able to handle it just fine.”

“I think it’s the right thing for the country,” Grossman said. “I think it’s the right thing for all people in this country. I hope the Supreme Court agrees.” The high court was in its second day of hearing arguments on the law Tuesday.
