Resort offers free skiing and riding plus a passholder BBQ on April 15

Newry, Maine-Sunday River Resort is saying goodbye to its winter season on Sunday, April 15, with “Ski Mania,” a day of free skiing and riding for all guests. Sunday also marks the resort’s annual Passholder Appreciation BBQ with free food and slopeside music, open to current New England Passholders only. As a bonus, this weekend promises sunny skies, warm temperatures, and over 30 trails.

“Our guests have come to expect a long season with great conditions,” Dana Bullen, Sunday River’s president and general manager, says. “We were able to host racing teams and large groups early and late in the season because we had the snow. Now, we have a chance to show even more appreciation for our guests with our annual Ski Mania and Passholder BBQ.”

After opening its 2011-12 ski season just before Halloween for the fourth year in a row, Sunday River was able to extend its skiing and riding into the middle of April through skillful grooming and experienced snowmaking, some of which occurred as late as the last week in March. To ski or ride for free on Sunday, guests must simply swing by the ticket counters at South Ridge or Barker base lodges to acquire a lift ticket on Sunday morning.

Coinciding with the late-season snowmaking, Boyne Resorts, managers of Sunday River, launched the 2012-13 New England Pass sale. Until April 30, the 2012-13 New England Pass, valid at Sunday River, Sugarloaf, and Loon Mountain, is available at the lowest prices of the year. A $50 down payment before April 30 will lock in those low rates with an Easy Pay Plan and no interest rates. The New England Pass also offers up discounts and deals at all three resorts as well as other Boyne properties across the country.

On-mountain summer activities at Sunday River will resume on June 29, 2012, with the opening of the mountain bike park, zipline tours, geocache adventures, scenic lift rides, hiking, and summertime events.
