Hackman Capital of Los Angeles and Bay State real estate investor Calare Properties officially announced they have acquired the former 448,000-square-foot Evergreen Solar plant on Barnum Road in Devens.
The plant, located in the Barnum Business Park, which is four miles west of Route 495 and two miles north of Route 2, is on 25 acres of land and was constructed by Evergreen Solar in 2010. Hackman officials said the acquisition took several months because of Evergreen’s complicated bankruptcy.
“We are thrilled to acquire this property as we continue to build our presence in the Greater Boston area, and we look forward to finding tenants for the building and adding jobs in the area,” said Hackman Capital founder and CEO Michael Hackman.
Recent construction on the property included the addition of emergency diesel generators, an air compressor system, internal wastewater treatment, chemical bunkers and distribution systems, air abatement systems, water cooling systems and gas distribution systems.
The project is Hackman Capital and Hudson-based Calare’s second venture together in Devens. The two firms jointly manage more than 8.8 million square feet in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and New York.
The Herald reported last month the two firms would bring in two tenants to fill the Evergreen void. Marlboro-based Evergreen went bankrupt in August, five months after shutting down the Devens plant and eliminating more than 800 jobs.
