Relieved Jonathan Papelbon closes the deal!

Spring has sprung and the real estate market is heating up, so here’s an update on a few of our favorite listings:

Ex-Red Sox [team stats] closer Jonathan Papelbon [stats] has just closed on a deal to unload his four-bedroom, three-bath Back Bay penthouse that had been on the market since just after he split for Philly.

The 2,500-square-foot pied-a-terre sold for something in the neighborhood of $3 million. Nice neighborhood!

Pap’s Beacon Street palace featured hardwood and marble floors, high ceilings, custom cabinetry, a roof deck with a hot tub overlooking the Charles and a nursery featuring two seats from Fenway Park [map]. Bet that was a closer!

And speaking of baseball real estate, former Red Sox shortstud Nomar Garciaparra and his wife, former soccer standout Mia Hamm, have put Nomah’s childhood home in Whittier, Calif., on the block for just shy of $600K.

The three-bedroom, two-bath Spanish-style home has been completely remodeled and features a guest house and a master bedroom with hot tub. Whittier, Calif., in case you don’t know, was also the childhood home of former prez Richard “Tricky Dick” Nixon.

Closer to home, the family of the late Andy Rooney is selling his Connecticut abode for the asking price of $749,000. The four-bedroom, 2A-bath Norwalk farmhouse is where Andy and his wife, Margie, lived for 62 years and raised their kids, including “Greater Boston” host Emily Rooney.

Built in 1882, the house feat-ures a third of an acre of “rolling lawns,” nearly 2,500 square feet of living area, a kitchen fireplace and a partially finished basement where Andy kept his office and a wet bar. Of course.

“The home does need a rip strip for updating and to rid it of the frightening foyer wallpaper,” says one listing. But Rooney’s former roost has the three most important real estate features: location, location, location. It’s a five-minute walk to the train that whisked Andy to Manhattan and the CBS studios for 60 years.
