Spring Benefit Concert for Thrive at CIGSYA!

The nationally acclaimed Boston Gay Men’s Chorus believes in creating a more tolerant society through the power of music and will be coming to Cape to further their work

Dozens of singers from the Greater Boston area will be coming to the area to benefit Thrive at CIGYSYA, the Cape and Islands Gay and Straight Youth Alliance. The show will begin at 7 pm in the Knight Auditorium at Barnstable High School.  In addition there will be a Silent Art Auction just before the show at 6:00 pm to benefit both CIGSYA and Barnstable High School’s Scholarship Fund.

At home in some of Boston’s most prestigious venues including Symphony Hall and Jordan Hall, the Boston Gay Men’s Chorus has also performed coast to coast, from New York City’s Carnegie Hall to San Francisco’s Davies Symphony Hall, and throughout Europe.  “Thrive at CIGSYA”, the Cape and Islands Gay and Straight Youth Alliance, has been selected as one of three benefactor organizations in 2012 to be honored with a benefit performance through the Boston Gay Men’s Chorus High School Outreach Program. This Cape Cod concert will consist of a wide spectrum of classical and popular music, including the music of Ricky Martin, Katy Perry and George Gershwin.   PFLAG of Cape Cod (Parents, Friends and Families of Lesbians, Gays, Bisexual and Transgenders) has joined with the Barnstable High School Gay / Straight Alliance to organize the event, which is also sponsored by Eastern Bank, Keel Asset Management and Liptv, among others.

Thrive at CIGSYA  is an organization that celebrates the diversity of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning and straight youth.  In existence since 1996, it is a place where young people 22 and under can enjoy meetings, drop in times and special events in a peer lead, adult advised environment, free from judgment based on inherent differences. In 2012 CIGSYA rebranded to the name Thrive to more accurately reflect the breadth of work in which the organization is engaged. Thrive at CIGSYA is a leader in our region in supporting initiatives around prevention of addiction, substance abuse, homelessness and suicide, and for all youth.

The CIGSYA House team stands strongly on the belief that making our community safer, more respectful and less judgmental begins by bringing a broad diversity of young people together in an environment where everyone’s dignity is appreciated. CIGSYA believes that youth who are appreciated rather than harassed, achieve higher levels of self-esteem and live happier and healthier lives.  The Boston Gay Men’s Chorus interweaves this message in their outreach concerts.
