May 5, 12, 19 and 26 – Saturdays
• Lynn Parks and Recreation will be sponsoring a four-week tennis clinic on Saturdays during the month of May at Gowdy Park. The clinic will cover forehand, backhand, serving, positioning and scoring. The dates are May 5, 12, 19 and 26. On each Saturday, the first session is from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., the second session is from 10:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. and the third session is from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is $30, which includes the clinic and a T-shirt, and registration is required. • POWER in Lynn will hold its monthly networking luncheon from noon to 1 p.m., at Centerboard, 20 Wheeler St. Anyone who lives, works or just loves being in Lynn is welcome to attend. The cost is $10 cash to cover the lunch. Wicked Tasty and Centerboard will treat attendees to a custom made lunch to show off their new services. • Applications are now available at area high schools for students who graduated from Breed Middle School and who are interested in obtaining the 2012 Agnes M. Follen Annual Memorial Scholarship. The additional qualifications for the scholarship are the student must be a graduating high school student in the class of 2012 accepted to a college or university and the scholarship award is to be used to advance one’s education. Applications are available at each of the high school guidance offices and at Breed Middle School. All interested students must submit their completed application to their guidance counselor by May 11.

• There will be a golf tournament fundraiser for the city’s fireworks this year at 3:30 p.m. at Gannon Municipal Golf Course. There will a shot gun start with nine holes and a scramble format. • Don White’s Sunday Open Mic happens every Sunday at the Walnut Street Cafe, 157 Walnut St., drawing talented musicians and performers from the North Shore and beyond, plus a feature act who plays a half-hour set. Sign-up starts at 7 p.m. with the show shortly thereafter.

• Jeff Pearlstein leads the weekly rhythm circle at the Walnut Street Cafe, 157 Walnut St., on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. Bang a drum, cut a rug or just warm up by the fire. • The Belmonte Middle School Band will be hosting a spring craft festival. The craft festival is to help provide funds for their trips to cultural events. • The Swampscott Church of Spiritualism will hold its Annual Spring Spiritual Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m at the Church at 59 Burrill Street. • Registration is now open for the 2012 North Shore Arthritis Walk being held at Lynch Park in Beverly. Anyone interested can join a team or become a team captain. The walk is a community event for all ages and abilities that includes children’s activities, food, special guests and a post-walk party. • The Church of St. Andrew in Marblehead will sponsor one of the North Shore’s largest and most popular rummage sales from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the church and its parish hall. St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church is located at 135 Lafayette St. on Route 114 near the Salem line. Early coffee and muffins will be on sale for those who wait in line, followed by sandwiches, beverages, and homemade baked goods in the cafe. All kinds of treasures will be on sale: adult and children’s clothing and shoes, small appliances, kitchenware, linens, books, toys, furniture, gardening supplies, artwork, sporting goods, purses and accessories, luggage, lamps, baskets, craft items and boutique items. • The city of Peabody will begin its annual street sweeping program the week of March 26 (weather permitting). Sweepers will begin in the east end area working the side streets off Margin Street. Prior to the sweeping, residents are urged to participate by keeping cars off the streets and by sweeping any sand or debris from the sidewalks onto the gutters. The applicant must be a resident of Peabody. The applicant or a member or his or her family must be an active participant in one of the member clubs for at least one year prior to application date.
