Heading Home, a Boston area agency devoted to helping the homeless, raised more than $700,000 to support programs to end family homelessness at its recent Housewarming Event.

The Housewarming Event, held May 3rd at The State Room in Boston, is Heading Home’s largest fundraiser of the year, according to a statement.

The event has a long tradition of leadership by supporters who understand the issue of homelessness in Greater Boston and are willing to engage the community at large, according to a press release. This year, Brian Kavoogian of Charles River Realty Investors and Jack Sebastian of Goldman, Sachs Co. chaired the event, and Andrew Maher of Equity Office Properties served as master of ceremonies.

Heading Home’s mission is to end homelessness in Greater Boston by providing a supported pathway to self-sufficiency that begins with a home, together with critical services like financial literacy and job training.

“Heading Home relies on the generosity of its committed supporters to raise the funds needed to help individuals and families end the homelessness cycle,” said Tom Lorello, executive director of Heading Home. “We are immensely grateful to our dedicated event chairs Brian Kavoogian and Jack Sebastian for their unwavering support of Heading Home, as well as to our committed sponsors and generous restaurant partners who made our Housewarming Event a tremendous success.”

The perilous housing market and wave of foreclosures have displaced many people, and the issue of homelessness has become absolutely critical in the Greater Boston community, according to the press release. On any given night, there are more than 7,000 homeless people in Greater Boston, including 3,000 children. Not since the Great Depression have so many families been homeless.
