Flames and explosions will hit an Everett power plant today — and that’s no cause for concern, fire officials say.
National Grid is scheduled to inspect a natural gas line at the Constellation Energy Mystic power plant on Rover Street, where officials will flush out and burn off residual gas, causing “visible flame and a loud blowing noise” for up to 8 hours, Everett Fire Chief David Butler said in a release.
Expected to start at 6 a.m., the process poses no danger to the community, and residents in and around Chelsea shouldn’t be concerned, Butler said.
“Because the flame could be visible from many vantage points throughout the Greater Boston area, we wanted to make you aware of the event and that National Grid is conducting this test responsibly and safely,” Butler said.
Local emergency responders and communities have also been given a heads-up, he said.
Anyone with questions should call National Grid at 800-322-3223.
