On Wednesday of this week at Fowler library, take in the Afternoon Film Series which is showing films based on books. “The Lincoln Lawyer” is airing on June 13 on the lower level meeting room.
On Thursday, June 14, join the Thursday Authors Series with Wendy Swart Grossman this week at the main library. Grossman is the author of “Behind the Wheel: A Mother’s Journey of a Year on the Road,” and will be offering signed books after her talk.
Sunday, June 10 is the last day you can see the student art show at the Concord Art Association. Some striking pieces in all media this year. Across the Milldam at the Albright Art Gallery, take in the Helen Popinchalk show until July 15. Enjoy the colorful works of art.
In the mood for great opera? To celebrate its 40th year of incorporation, Friends of the Performing Arts in Concord will present Puccini’s “La Boheme” on Saturday, June 9 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, June 10 at 2 p.m. The work will be performed in Italian with surtitles (English translation above the stage). Conducted by Alan Yost and stage directed by Kathy Lague, the work will have a children’s chorus rehearsed by Kathryn Denney. Chorus master is Paula Eldridge. John Tischio, president of the New England Opera Club, will give a free lecture about La Boheme at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6 at 51 Walden. Musicologist Laura Prichard will give an introduction to the opera prior to both performances starting at 7:15 on Saturday and 1:15 on Sunday. Tickets are $25. Call 978 369-7911 or buy on line.
A grand flea market/recycle sale is on June 9 at the First Parish Church, 20 Lexington Road, and tables are still available. Sponsored by the Women’s Parish Association, the sale starts at 9 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. There are a few tables left to rent.
