To the editor:

It was a glorious weekend for Hospice of the North Shore Greater Boston’s 18th annual auction and regatta on June 15 and 17. This year’s event was the most successful in history, raising more than $355,000 to support the expert and compassionate care provided by Hospice of the North Shore Greater Boston. The festivities at Eastern Yacht Club, which included the auction on Friday and the regatta on Sunday, were attended by more than 400 guests.

Our deep appreciation is extended to our sponsors, including more than 200 North Shore and Boston area merchants who donated items for our auction and gift bags. We are grateful to this year’s signature artist, Ken Knowles. His magnificent painting “Summer Sky” was the highlight of the live auction.

Most importantly, we thank our 30-member committee, co-chaired by Brian McCarthy and Meryl Thompson, for their commitment to the mission of Hospice of the North Shore Greater Boston. We salute them for sharing their time, talent and enthusiasm to make this a truly memorable event.

We wish to acknowledge the Eastern Yacht Club for its gracious hospitality led by Commodore Phil Smith, General Manager Jeff Wargo, Assistant General Manager Ali Mahra, club members and staff. With beautiful weather for sailing, Cheryl Byrne and Dr. James McCully of the EYC Race Committee officiated the race on Sunday with 35 boats competing for a chance to participate in the National Hospice Regatta in St. Petersburg, Fla.

We thank the Marblehead community for welcoming us for this annual event and for its continued generosity that enables Hospice of the North Shore Greater Boston to respond to the needs of all who call upon us.
