Helping neighbors

The Citizens Bank Summer Concert Series will host a food drive to support the Greater Boston Food Bank during a special performance 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Aselton Park, Ocean Street, Hyannis.

The concert will feature local artists Sarah Swain and the Oh Boys.

Concert-goers are encouraged to bring nonperishable foods, including canned tuna, chicken or other meats; canned soups or chili; plastic bottles or cans of 100-percent fruit juice; pasta, rice or other grains; healthy cereal; dry or boxed shelf-stable milk; canned beans; peanut butter or canned vegetables.

The food bank serves more than 30 Cape Cod food pantries and will be on site to accept donations, which will be distributed to local residents through food bank member agencies in the Cape Cod Hunger Network.

Those who donate non-perishable items at the performance will receive a Passport To The Arts, courtesy of The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, which co-sponsors the Summer Concert Series. The passport, a $20 value, offers discounts to local theaters, galleries and restaurants.

“We often lose sight of the fact that hunger is an issue for many people on Cape Cod. The opportunity, through our partnership with Citizens Bank, to help make a positive impact on our hungry neighbors in need adds additional meaning to this concert,” Arts Foundation of Cape Cod Executive Director Kevin Howard stated in a press release.

The Summer Concert Series features 48 free performances by more than 20 local bands throughout the summer. For the full concert schedule, go to www.artsfoundation.org.

‘Summer Sounds’

The Cape Cod Conservatory of Music Arts, for the 10th year, will conduct the “Summer Sounds” music program for students ages 12 to 18.

In this program, students spend two weeks performing music under the guidance of professional musicians and the direction of George Scharr.

The prerequisite is two years of instrument or voice experience and a desire to have fun while making music with others. Students will learn more about their instruments, fine-tune their music reading skills and increase their knowledge of and appreciation for a wide range of musical genres, including jazz, rock, blues, classical and Broadway. The program concert is an opportunity for students to gain performance experience.

This year, the conservatory is debuting “Summer Sounds Junior,” a two-week program for students ages 8 to 11 who will spend two hours a day singing and playing their instruments while learning music, basic theory and ear training in chorus.

“Summer Sounds,” for students entering grades 6 to 12, will be held 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday July 16 to 27 at the Conservatory’s Falmouth campus, 60 Highfield Drive, and Aug. 13 to 24 at its West Barnstable campus on Route 132.

“Summer Sounds Junior” will be held noon to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday July 30 to Aug. 10 at the Falmouth campus.
