To empower local families to make healthier life choices, Stop Shop is hosting its second “Healthy Kids Summit,” which aims to educate families on important nutrition and exercise information to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Joining Stop Shop are community health experts from the YMCA of Greater Boston, the Boston Public Health Commission, which is working to increase physical activity and healthy eating through the new Boston Moves for Health campaign, the New England Dairy Promotion Board along with a special guest appearance by a Boston baseball player.
The event will be comprised of a brief and highly interactive 30-minute panel discussion and audience trivia game that incorporates key facts on nutrition, exercise and a balanced lifestyle along with simple tips and techniques to stay fit.
The panel will be moderated by Julie Menounos, RD, LD-N, Stop Shop’s first in-store nutritionist and will include tips from a Boston baseball player; Joann Donnelly, executive director of healthy living at the YMCA of Greater Boston; Elizabeth M. Ward, M.S., R.D., the Hood “Answer Mom;” and Dr. Huy Nguyen, medical director of the Boston Public Health Commission.
The panel session will be followed by an energetic Zumba fitness routine led by Monique Rogers from the YMCA of Greater Boston along with a health fair including healthy snacks and refreshments in the State Street Pavilion.
The event is free. Families, camps, caregivers, media and community organizations are invited to attend. Attendees are encouraged to use public transportation and wear comfortable clothing.
Space is limited to 250 people and registration is required. For more information and to register, visit stopandshop.com/healthykidssummit.
