WAREHAM — The Wareham Police Department is one of two law enforcement agencies in the state to receive two free, brand-new Jet Skis.

Greater Boston Motorsports of Arlington is donating two Kawasaki Ultra 300X Jet Skis, valued at $15,000 each, at no cost to the Wareham Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police through a watercraft public safety program offered by Kawasaki Motors Corp, according to a prepared police press release.

Lt. Kevin Walsh, public information officer for the Wareham Police Department, said in the release that the Jet Skis will be used for marine patrols and the promotion of public safety along the town’s 54 miles of coastline.

He said the department is especially concerned about boaters who drink while they use their boats and minors in possession of alcohol on the waterways.

Police Chief Richard Stanley said the Jet Skis, in addition to the all-terrain vehicles that patrol town beaches, will greatly enhance police abilities.

The chief said the Police Department will work with the harbormaster and the Onset and Wareham fire departments to make the waterways of Wareham “as safe as possible.”

Barry Eisenberg, general manager of Greater Boston Motorsports, said they were glad to help the Wareham department.

“This is a great program. Greater Boston Motorsports and Kawasaki are very glad to assist Wareham in its endeavor to keep the waterways of Wareham as safe as possible,” he said in the release.
