Boston’s Artist Professional Toolkit Comes to Montserrat; Provides Practicing … – SYS

BEVERLY, MA — (Marketwire) — 07/24/12 — A new, two-semester professional certificate program, which teaches artists the business skills for work in the creative economy, is being launched this fall in collaboration with Montserrat College of Art — www.montserrat.edu — and Boston’s Arts and Business Council http://www.artsandbusinesscouncil.org/.

The Artist Professional Toolkit Program (APT), now in its eighth year, teaches practicing visual artists the skills and confidence they need to master the business challenges of being an artist. In addition, artists will be involved in critiques and artist-mentoring through this unique partnership with the college.

APT is a nine-month intensive course for artists to learn and practice marketing, networking, and business skills with the additional benefits of peer group interaction, mentorship, and feedback.

“Bringing the program to an art college is an exciting next step in the program’s development,” says D’lynne Plummer, Director of Professional Development at Arts Business Council of Greater Boston. “We look forward to adding a new component that of the studio critique to the already robust curriculum.”

APT students will receive constructive feedback on their artwork and be taught the skills to critique their own and others’ work. The ability to judge and edit one’s own work is critical to the success of any artist’s portfolio. Discourse will go beyond formally deconstructing the work and offer practical solutions to encourage creative productivity.

The program is now taking applications for a September 1, 2012 launch. For more information, visit http://www.montserrat.edu/artists-toolbox/index.php.
