Clear Channel just announced ‘FNX’s 101.7 signal will become WHBA-FM “The Harbor.”
WHBA will be Clear Channel’s fifth radio station in the Greater Boston area and will “play anything,” according the company’s release. Why do I think anything means 500 very carefully-curated Top 40 songs? Surely, it doesn’t mean the Pixies or Dresden Dolls or Passion Pit.
This from the release:
“Unlike any other Boston radio station, 101.7 The Harbor will play a variety of music and styles spanning four decades. WHBA-FM will feature listeners’ favorite songs from a variety of artists across the board such as Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Madonna, Prince, No Doubt, Def Leppard, AC/DC, Maroon 5, Van Halen, U2, Journey, Nirvana, Matchbox 20 and many more. Listeners will also enjoy a commercial-free summer of music in celebration of Boston’s newest station 101.7 The Harbor.”
Not a terrible bunch of bands — well, other than Matchbox 20 — but no personality. Which isn’t surprising as it’s a Clear Channel station. If I listen this summer it will likely be because there are no adds and I stumble across “Hot for Teacher.”
