In a month filled with delectable competitions, an online burger battle among 57 Greater Boston restaurants has come up with a local winner: Brookline’s own Fireplace restaurant. “This is a tremendous honor,” said Harry Robinson, director of the Brookline Chamber of Commerce, in announcing the Fireplace Burger’s selection for the People’s Choice award. Chef-owner Jim Solomon said he took quality local ingredients to make his cheddar-stuffed burger with bacon, caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, and a house-brined pickle on a homemade English muffin. His creation will be competing against the 19 other finalists in a cook-off Aug. 7 in Boston. “We hope to make Brookline proud,” Solomon said. The Fireplace is holding a burger bash Sunday from noon to 8 p.m., featuring street performers and live music at 1634 Beacon St. For $15 at the door — kids admitted free — patrons get a Fireplace Burger; other food and drink are extra. Tickets for the competition on Aug. 7 and more details are available at www.bostonmagazine.com/burger.
