Needham grocery store Sudbury Farms has caught Aly Raisman fever. It’s now selling specially designed “Aly Raisman” cakes and 12-inch cookies.
There’s a front-lobby table with cakes that read “Go Aly!” as well as Aly Raisman-themed cookies with her face in the middle. The store also plans to update its window painting of Aly Raisman to reflect her recent gold-medal finish in the women’s team final on Tuesday.
“I’m from Rhode Island, but I know there was a rally and I saw the big billboard of Aly Raisman,” said baker manager Tom Young, who said he noticed a recent issue of the Improper Bostonian with Raisman on the cover lying around the bakery. “I tasted some of the cookies last night, and I saw the magazine, so I thought to put the two together.”
The store made three cookies this morning and has already sold out of them, in addition to several “Go Aly!” cakes yesterday, said assistant store manager Sue LaRosa.
“It’s a lot of fun for both the employees and the customers,” she said. “The kids are really excited.”
LaRosa showed off the lower floor of Sudbury Farms, where bakers were making new “Aly” cookies by scanning the Improper Bostonian cover with a machine that converts the image into a colored sheet of sugar.
The cookies are $10 each—an Olympic treat with a golden smile.
“I ordered an extra case of cookies,” said Young. “I know people will be excited for them this next week.”
