Spindle for iPhone is a location-based mobile app designed to integrate events and the user’s social graph.
Spindle Labs Inc. on Thursday released its eponymous location-based mobile app, which is now available to iPhone users in Greater Boston and the San Francisco Bay Area.
According to a blog post by Spindle co-founder and CEO Pat Kinsel, the app is designed to provide its users with a newsfeed of local happenings, including posts from businesses and points of interest in the immediate area.
“Spindle combines the power and flexibility of search technologies with location, time of day, and the structure of the physical world, the social graph, and attributes of each social update to answer “what’s happening around me,” Kinsel said in the Aug. 9 blog post.
Spindle features include the ability to add and keep track of preferred spots on a “favorites list,” search filters to pinpoint specific content by category, as well as integration with Facebook and Twitter for sharing and finding friends and followers who already use Spindle.
Kinsel and co-founders Alex Lambert and Simon Yun were all previously engineers and managers at Microsoft’s New England Research and Development (NERD) center in Cambridge, Mass.
