Mayor Thomas M. Menino announced today that Boston Moves for Health, an ambitious initiative to improve the health and wellness of the city by increasing access to free and low-cost physical activities and healthy living resources, will partner with the Hometown Wellness Showdown to help residents get healthy, get active, and lose weight.
The Hometown Wellness Showdown, sponsored by Lose It!, Boston.com, and the Greater Boston YMCA, starts this week and runs through October 12, 2012. Participants can sign up for free at http://showdown.loseit.com, and earn points for logging exercise, eating fruits and vegetables, losing weight, and a variety of other activities. Prizes include YMCA memberships, Fitbit pedometers scales, Health-o-Meter scales, Oster Blenders, an Apple iPad, and New Balance gift cards.
“It’s a win-win situation when a local, Innovation District company like Lose It! takes an active role in promoting the health and wellness of Boston residents,” said Mayor Menino. “Through this exciting partnership, we can encourage even more people get moving and get healthy. At the same time, we’ll be that much closer to reaching our goal of collectively moving ten million miles and losing one million pounds.”
