The sun shone brightly, bringing smiles and drying tears, as over 6,000 people celebrated the lives of their loved ones at the 25th Walk for Hospice of the North Shore and Greater Boston! On Sunday, Sept. 23, the tranquil neighborhood around St. John’s Prep in Danvers came alive as families, friends, students, parents and community volunteers united on campus to remember the special lives that had touched their own.
The proceeds from the Walk support essential, comprehensive programming, not covered by insurance, allowing Hospice of the North Shore and Greater Boston to be an innovator in end-of-life care. While the final tally of donations is not completed yet, we are confident that this 25th Walk will raise more than $250,000. We are grateful for the outpouring of support from the community.
There are countless individuals who have made the Walk for Hospice of the North Shore and Greater Boston what it is today. We extend our sincere appreciation to our dynamic Walk Committee chaired by Ronna Thur Winer of Danvers and Tom Gould of Peabody, to scores of energetic volunteers, and to the entire St. John’s Prep community: Headmaster Dr. Ed Hardiman, and staff, faculty, parents and students. Together we welcomed friends, families of hospice patients and students from more than 40 area schools and colleges — all honoring the memories loved ones by walking and raising important charitable funds.
Our corporate sponsors contributed not only generous financial resources, also but many goods and services to make this event possible. This year’s sponsors included presenting sponsors NMTW Community Credit Union and Invacare, and leadership sponsors Henry’s, Electric Insurance, North Shore 104.9 FM and North Shore Medical Center.
On behalf of the families and patients who benefit from the generosity of our caring community, please accept our heartfelt thanks. — Diane T. Stringer, president, Hospice of the North Shore and Greater Boston, Danvers
