The Waltham YMCA, a branch of the YMCA of Greater Boston, is encouraging the community to get fit and give back this fall by donating five non-perishable food items when they join the Y from Oct. 13 through Nov. 18. Individuals and families that donate food items will have their $25-50 YMCA joiner fee waived, receive 3 free sessions of YMCA health wellness coaching (valued at $150), and be entered to win a personal training package. Current members who donate will also be entered into a personal training package raffle.
The Y is teaming up with Mayor Thomas Menino’s CANshare program to collect non-perishable food and help fight hunger this fall. It is important to end hunger and promote healthy eating. The goal is to make Boston the healthiest city in the US. For every Boston resident to live a healthy lifestyle, we must start by eradicating hunger and increasing access to healthy food.
In addition to the 3 free sessions of health wellness coaching that all new members receive, the Waltham YMCA offers hundreds of free group exercise classes and also reduced-fee specialty classes including youth basketball leagues, private swim lessons, new adult specialty fitness classes, preschool soccer and T-ball leagues. New programs for people of all ages and abilities start Oct. 27, with registration starting Oct. 5 for members and Oct. 12 for non-members. Financial assistance is available to those who qualify.
