JORDAN HARRIS WAS AWARDED THE GOLD HELMET FOR HIS PERFORMANCE LAST WEEK
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Junior wide receiver Jordan Harris (Lincoln University, Pa.) was recognized by the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston with the New England Football Writers Association Gold Helmet Award for his outstanding performance in Bryant’s 38-35 victory over Robert Morris last weekend.
The Bulldogs’ all-time leading receiver, Harris put up his second 200-yard receiving game of the season and the third of his career in winning his first-ever Gold Helmet. He becomes the second Bryant player this season to earn the honor after senior running back Jordan Brown (Glastonbury, Conn.) was recognized following his performance against Saint Francis (PA) in week two. Harris’s effort also earned him two other honors, as he was named the NEC Offensive Player of the Week by College Sports Madness and an Honorable Mention Wide Receiver of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards.
Last Saturday, Harris was instrumental in helping the Black and Gold earn their first victory of the season. He caught 10 passes for 201 yards and a pair of scores. Harris registered 100 yards on four catches before the break and then topped that in the second half in helping the Bulldogs overcome three separate deficits. With Bryant trailing, 28-24, and facing a fourth-and-one from the RMU 10, Harris had his number called and he turned into six. He caught a quick out pass before shaking a tackler and diving into the endzone to give the Bulldogs the lead. The Colonials, however, quickly responded, taking the lead just over six minutes later on an interception return. It was Harris’s turn again to steal the show. On a third-and-six from the RMU 16, Harris got open in the back of the endzone and caught a perfectly thrown pass from Mike Westerhaus (Farmingville, N.Y.) to give the Black and Gold the lead for good.
Harris has now recorded all three of the 200-yard receiving games in program history and became the first Bulldog receiver to record over 2,000 yards in a career. He also became just the third player to record over 100 catches in a career and is now 10th all-time in Northeast Conference history with 2,163 yards.
The Bulldogs will look for their second consecutive victory this weekend when they travel to West Long Branch, N.J., to take on Monmouth. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20.
