Pakistan Association to hold South Asian fashion show

Designers include: Huma Adnan of FNK Asia, Rani Emaan, Saffron International (sarees by Manish Malhotra, Tarun Tahiliani and several others Indian designers) and Deepak Perwani. Adnan and Perwani are flying in from Pakistan exclusively for the event. Indian jewelers taking part are Sej Jewelers by Sejal Javehri from New York, Mairaah Aggarwal from Phoenix and Sapna Creations by Sapna Grover from Virginia.

“The purpose of this fashion event is to raising money toward a charity for our community • the Boston community not just the Pakistani community, plus part of the proceeds will go to an organization in Pakistan,” said Durre Kidwai, social director of the Pakistan Association of Greater Boston. “The other purpose was to bring the Pakistani and Indian community together through fashion, art and culture.”

“The entire Indian community has been very supportive of this event, we are very glad this is a collaborative effort to do something positive,” she added.

According to Kidwai, this is the first fashion event the association has held. “We thought about different things to have something very big as well as catch the attention of everybody,” she said. “Fashion and arts and culture I think is very common throughout • these things you don’t need to understand through a language • everybody can understand and gets it.”

Kidwai said the association is expecting a very good turnout for the event.

The group is also very excited to bring the designers to the area. “This is their first time in Boston. None of the designers have been here — ever,” Kidwai said.

The Pakistan Association of Greater Boston is a voluntary organization of All Pakistanis regardless of their socio-economic or ethnic differences. Its primary function is to provide a focus for organizing the social and cultural life of the community. It engages in social, cultural and educational programs in order to serve the Desi American society.
