ROSSMOOR (CNS) – A search was under way today for a man who inflicted three stab wounds on a 28-year-old woman, who was attacked as she jogged in the unincorporated community of Rossmoor.
The woman, who was released from the hospital this morning, was grabbed from behind and stabbed at 9:11 p.m. Tuesday in the 3200 block of Bostonian Drive, according to Orange County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Jim Amormino.
The woman knocked the knife out of the assailant’s hand after the first stab wound was inflicted, but he managed to knock her down and stab her two more times, Amormino said, noting that the victim was stabbed in the face, arm and hand.
Upon hearing her screaming, a resident of the community rushed outside, and the assailant fled on a BMX bicycle, Amormino said.
It’s unclear what motivated the attack, he said. “He made no attempt to sexually assault her,” Amormino said, “and he didn’t say one word. She said he looked angry.”
Robbery appears unlikely, as well, since most joggers would not have money on them, Amormino said.
Amormino said the assailant was a thin Latino man in his early 20s, about 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-9, wearing dark clothing and a baseball cap.
