ROSSMOOR — Orange County Sheriff’s Department officials will hold a community meeting tonight in the wake of a recent attack on a jogger, who was knocked to the ground and repeatedly stabbed.
The unidentified assailant remained at large Thursday and Sheriff’s deputies continued with an intense manhunt for the suspect, going door to door in the affluent and normally quiet community looking for anyone with information about the case, said Orange County Sheriff’s Department Spokesman Jim Amormino.
The meeting is being held to provide the community with information about the investigation and to provide them with safety tips, Amormino said.
“There is no composite sketch because the victim is not able to give enough specifics on the suspect’s description,” he explained. “We are following up on all leads.”
The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Rossmoor Park, 3232 Hedwig Road, he said.
Members of the unincorporated community, which is nestled between Seal Beach and Los Alamitos, were shocked and horrified by the attack, which occurred at about 9:11 p.m. Tuesday on Bostonian Drive.
The victim was jogging when she was grabbed from behind and stabbed. She told detectives she was able to knock the knife out of her attacker’s hand but he managed to drag her down to the ground and, after getting the knife, stabbed her two more times.
The victim was stabbed in the face, arm and hand, Amormino said. None of her injuries were life-threatening.
The attack ended when
a resident heard the victim’s screams and rushed outside. The suspect, described as a thin Hispanic man in his early 20s who wore dark clothing and baseball cap, fled on a BMX bicycle, Amormino said.
The motive for the attack remained under investigation Thursday, Amormino said.
“He made no attempt to sexually assault her, he didn’t say one word,” Amormino said. “She said he looked angry.”
Anyone with information was urged to call call 866-847-6273 or 714-628-7170.
