More than 1,200 Greater Boston real estate executives attended United Way’s Real Estate Building Industry Leadership Breakfast this week, celebrating the industry’s philanthropic commitment to preventing homelessness.

The sold-out event has raised $31 million since 1994 and this year is just $50,000 short of its $3 million goal.

United Way also presented the Norman B. Leventhal/Edwin N. Sidman Real Estate Building Industry Leadership Award, a tribute to individuals who have greatly contributed to the community.

This year’s award was presented posthumously to Hank Spaulding, co- founder of Spaulding Slye — now Jones Lang LaSalle (NYSE: JLL) — and to Polly Bryson, partner at Terra Nova Partners.

In 1982, Spaulding launched the company’s first United Way campaign. Bryson has been a fundraiser for many community service, educational and professional organizations.
