Boston, MA (PRWEB) November 14, 2012

On Wednesday, November 14th, Bostonians will awaken to a bold reminder that tomatoes are currently out of season. Actual out of season tomatoes will take over several city landmarks in a statement that proves consumers don’t have to settle for out of season. The Great Boston Tomato Invasion will encourage Bostonians to enjoy the taste of summer year round by choosing Muir Glen organic canned tomatoes. With gorgeous tomato taste; Muir Glen, a pioneer in the organic tomato industry since 1991, is always in season.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, Muir Glen is also donating 3,000 cans to the Boston CANshare annual food drive. Boston CANshare is sponsored by Mayor Thomas Menino, the Mayor’s Advisory Committee on Hunger, FedEx, and The Greater Boston Food Bank, with the goal of making wholesome food accessible to all Bostonians. This year’s campaign began Monday, November 5th and runs until November 30th, 2012.

Shannon Daily of Muir Glen said, “It is the brand’s great privilege to donate our product to Boston’s annual canned food drive. Our certified organic tomatoes are picked at peak flavor each summer and go from vine to can within hours, delivering the taste of summer all year long. Muir Glen believes that everyone should have access to food that is farmed in a way that considers the impact of agriculture on our environment, and we are so pleased to support the Mayor’s ongoing effort to eliminate hunger and champion wholesome eating.”

Mayor Thomas M. Menino expressed his appreciation, “The generous donation of canned goods by Muir Glen sets the bar high for other members of the private sector. The company clearly acts on its dedication to sustain local communities and with their support of our food drive; it is obvious that Muir Glen takes its civic responsibility seriously.”

Five iconic Boston landmarks have been targeted for Wednesday’s tomato invasion. Residents and tourists alike are encouraged to interact with the display where each tomato will carry a sign and message extolling the virtues of organic tomatoes canned at peak flavor. A quick response (QR) code will be located on each sign, allowing passers by to download a coupon, inspiring them to taste summer with Muir Glen for themselves.

Hints to the tomato invasion locations will be posted the morning of the invasion on the Muir Glen Facebook page. Once Muir Glen fans find the location, they are encouraged to upload photos to the Muir Glen Facebook page or to tag the brand in photos from the invasions. All fans who upload or tag a photo of the Boston tomato invasion on Facebook by 11 pm ET on November 14, 2012 will receive select free Muir Glen product, subject to availability.
