Most people know John Krasinski for his “nice guy” roles — most famous, of course, his character Jim Halpert from the hit television show “The Office.“
But in Krasinski’s latest interview with The Improper Bostonian, the Newton native talks about a different and deeper side to his career, and his latest screenplay “Promised Land.”
Krasinski teamed up with fellow Boston-area native Matt Damon to write the film, which follows the story of a company trying to buy drilling rights from a small rural community that has been hit hard by the economy. However, the corporation is met with opposition from a local school teacher and grass-roots campaign, according to IMDB.
According to The Improper, “Promised Land” covers the controversial topic of fracking, a process that extracts gas from shale by injecting the ground with chemicals. In the interview, both Krasinski and Damon talk about the process in deciding on the subject of the film and writing the screenplay itself.
In addition to writing the screenplay, both Krasinski and Damon star in the Gus Van Sant-directed film.
“Promised Land” hits select theatres on December 28 and wide release is set for January 4. The Improper issue featuring Krasinski and Damon is on newsstands now.
