Following on plans announced last November that University of Massachusetts President Robert Caret gave during a speech to the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, UMass released a report today that aims to make it easier for the public to monitor the university system’s performance.

The areas of accountability include student graduation rates, alumni giving and campus facility investments. The report lists six priority areas for the five campuses that comprise the UMass systems. There are 21 indicators used to determine whether UMass has been successful and, in later versions of the report, there will be a rating system to show how UMass has done in achieving goals. The accountability system and report are part of Caret’s plans to broaden public support for UMass.

According to UMass, the indicators that would would include measures such as admission rates of high-quality students, affordability of education, graduation and retention rates, and campus diversity.
