“About one in ten Americans will be directly affected by liver disease at some point in their lives. While there have been significant advances in transplantation care and new treatments for Hepatitis C virus infection, there is still a lot more work to be done. The team at Idenix is proud to participate alongside our families in this important fundraising event,” said Ron Renaud, the CEO of Idenix Pharmaceuticals. Idenix is the Presenting Sponsor for the Liver Life Walk Boston.

WCVB is proud to serve as the exclusive television sponsor of Liver Life Walk Greater Boston, with WCVB NewsCenter5’s Jim Lokay serving as the Walk’s emcee. Lokay is co-anchor of the station’s weekend morning and evening newscasts, as well as a general assignment reporter. Lokay is a longtime supporter of the American Liver Foundation.

Each year, a Liver Life Walk “LIVEr Champion” is named, and this year’s champion is 11-year-old Lindsey Boynton of Falmouth, Massachusetts. In the winter of 2010, she was diagnosed with Autoimmune Hepatitis, a condition in which a person’s own immune system attacks the liver. Despite being treated at Children’s Hospital in Boston and suffering many uncomfortable side effects, none of Lindsey’s symptoms have held her back. She excels in math and science, takes swimming lessons and is a proud Girl Scout. Lindsey hopes that by raising funds for the American Liver Foundation, someday a cure will be found that will help her and others overcome this disease.

The Liver Life Walk is the national fundraising walk of the American Liver Foundation. Join thousands of people from coast-to-coast as we pound the pavement to put an end to liver disease! By registering for the walk, you will be part of the largest fundraising and awareness event related to liver wellness.

Participants in the Liver Life Walk make a difference by raising the critical funds to support research grants, public education, and advocacy all in an effort to increase awareness and progress in the fight against liver disease.

The mission of the American Liver Foundation is to facilitate, advocate and promote education, support and research for the prevention, treatment and cure of liver disease.
