Marita Rivero, WGBH general manager for radio and television, is stepping down after 30 years on the job, according to a press release from the station.
Rivero is credited with helping to launch many well-known programs, such as “The World” on 89.7 FM, “Greater Boston,” “Basic Black” and “High School Quiz Show” on WGBH Channel 2.
Under Rivero’s tenure, WGBH Radio expanded from one station, 89.7FM, to Classical New England 99.5FM, WCAI and additional frequencies on the Cape, as well as live digital streaming of music and news.
Rivero currently serves as the chairwoman of the board of Bunker Hill Community College.
She will be succeeded by two senior staff members at WGBH, the press release said. Liz Cheng, currently general manager of WGBH’s national digital multicast channel WORLD, has been named general manager for television. Phil Redo, currently managing director of 89.7 WGBH and WCAI, has been named general manager for radio.
