Officials: Locks cut on water transmission line to Boston

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – State Police are investigating apparent break-ins at a water transmission line that carries drinking water to the greater-Boston area.

A Massachusetts Water Resources Authority official said that employees discovered locks had been cut to three outer hatches along the Hultman Aqueduct in Framingham Monday morning.

Massachusetts State Police said the hatches were located about a half-mile away from each other. They said it appeared that the vandals had attempted to cut a fourth lock.

Officials said that there was no evidence of any attempts to disrupt or contaminate the water supply, however.

“MWRA’s real-time water quality monitoring shows no change in water quality nor any sign of contamination,” said the MWRA.

According to the MWRA, the Hultman Aqueduct is one of two main transmission lines that carry drinking water from the treatment plant in Marlborough to the greater-Boston area.

An investigation was ongoing.
