Greater Boston Video: Jared Bowen Presents ‘The Kings of Summer’ and ‘Before …

We’re early into the summer movie season, but there are already two clever must-sees.

“The Kings of Summer” is a sweet, coming-of-age comedy about a group of boys embarrassed by their parents who try to prove their manliness by building a house in the woods.

Next, it’s been nine years since the second installment of director Richard Linklater’s love story trilogy, and “Before Midnight” has been worth the wait. Its characters, played by Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke, by now have lost some of the whimsy and romance of the 1995 “Before Sunrise” and 2004’s “Before Sunset.” But they carry on their remarkably natural conversations, and there’s a new layer to their relationship that comes with the characters being in their 40s, married and parents. It might be the best movie we see all season.
