Russian School of Mathematics
Jonah Levis and Ellin Li of Westwood, who attend the Russian School of Mathematics (RSM) for after-school math enrichment, were among over 200 RSM students from more than 50 Greater Boston communities honored for posting top scores in national and international math competitions during the 2012-2013 school year.
RSM hosted the awards ceremony at First Church of Boston on Sunday, June 2, from 6-9 p.m. to recognize its top students for remarkable achievement on, the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) test, the American Mathematics Contest (AMC) 8, 10 12, and the Math Kangaroo International Olympiad.
Saint Anselm College
Rev. Augustine Kelly, O.S.B., dean of the college, announced the following Westwood students that were named to the Dean’s List for the Spring 2013 semester at Saint Anselm College, Manchester, N.H.—Ani Rose Derderian and Allyson M. Dwan, both nursing majors.
To be eligible for this honor, a student must compile a grade point average of 3.0 or better.
Providence College
The following Westwood residents were among over 900 students from Providence College who received undergraduate degrees during the College’s Ninety-Fifth Commencement Exercises held on Sunday, May 19.
· Casey Criss, who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in health policy and management.
· Amy Halkett, who graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in psychology.
· Julie Moloy, who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in marketing.
· Erin Nanna, who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in marketing.
· Matthew O’Donnell, who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in finance.
St. Olaf College
Bradford Baldwin of Westwood graduated from St. Olaf College. Baldwin is a social studies education and history major and the son of Robert and Christine Baldwin .
St. Olaf President David R. Anderson ’74, awarded 689 diplomas to the class of 2013. In his remarks he told the graduating seniors he said, “You didn’t come to St. Olaf simply to earn a degree; rather, you chose this community of teachers and learners to help you to discern, and to prepare you for, a vocation; to prepare you for a life of engaged citizenship in the communities where you will live; and to help you to form and deepen the values that will guide you from this time forward.”
Connecticut College
Sarah Matthews of Westwood was awarded a bachelor of arts degree from Connecticut College at the 95th commencement ceremony on May 19. She majored in biological sciences.
In a keynote speech punctuated with cartoon references and the occasional appearance by a 19th century poet, Emmy-winning television writer and producer Howard Gordon told the often hilarious tale of his own success and left the 443 members of the Class of 2013 with advice as profound as it is simple—Work hard and be nice.
Quinnipiac University
