Vacation Arts Program

During the Vacation Arts Program, children engage in a wide variety of visual arts projects and techniques ranging from hands-on crafts to painting, printmaking and sculpture. Children are taught traditional technical skills but are also encouraged to work on original creations and are given freedom to use their imaginations for innovation and creative problem-solving. The Vacation Arts Program is a non-competitive environment that encourages each young artist to develop their interests, grow in their own personal style and work with others as they explore the world of art.

A little sneak peak behind the scenes of the Vacation Arts Program.

Lunch with a Side of History

Last week Matthew, our Development Associate, interviewed seniors during the hot lunch program. He learned what the city was like for women during WWII and what the going wage was in the 40’s (answers: loads of job opportunities, and $10 a week or less). They recollected seeing Ella Fitzgerald perform at the jazz club that once stood where the Harriet Tubman House now stands. Matthew collected such incredible stories of lives being lived. If you want to glean a new perspective on life, our seniors gather daily at noon.
