The Boston Red Sox and their 3rd annual youth camp baseball program will be arriving in Beverly and eight other cities in the Greater Boston area for weeklong sessions spanning from June 24 through Aug. 19.
“We are excited to bring the Red Sox camps to Beverly,” said Director of Boston Red Sox Summer Baseball Camps Brendan Sullivan. “It’s the number one way for young fans to get close to their favorite team. We’re really trying to create young leaders by putting them with other leaders. Baseball is a great sport to do that, and the most important thing is that we have a camp curriculum that is safe and fun.”
Besides development of baseball fundamentals and professional instruction, campers will engage in baseball activities including round-robin tournament games, home run derbies and an exclusive “Baseball Olympics” day. The camp also features a guided tour of Fenway Park and a chance to either meet a member of the 2013 Boston Red Sox or take an individual photo inside the team clubhouse, depending on the Red Sox’s game schedule. Each camper will also receive a complete Red Sox uniform including a hat, jersey, pants, socks and belt.
“Our summer camps provide the next generation of Red Sox fans with a first-class instructional experience,” said Boston Red Sox Vice President of Business Development Tim Zue. “Over the last three years, we’ve established a comprehensive program that enables our campers to improve their playing skills while also giving them unrivaled access to Red Sox players and coaches.”
Sullivan added the camps engage the game’s youngest fans in a very positive way and encourage the values of hard work and stick-to-itiveness that baseball personifies.
“We really have a range of campers,” said Sullivan. “There are kids getting ready to play in high school all the way to kids who are learning to play for the first time. It’s important as an organization where baseball and the Red Sox are important.”
For the first time since the Red Sox youth camp began, video analysis will be used for campers ages 9 and up in an effort to further develop the young players’ fundamental baseball skills. The new program also includes innovative instructional curriculum and differentiated practices based on each young player’s grade and skill level.
“We offer a Major League experience based on leadership and character development,” said Sullivan. “We have assembled the top coaching staff in the area and are committed to the individual development of each young ballplayer.”
Sullivan stated the camp’s family-focused program is its most important attribute, and the organization is looking very forward to coming to Beverly.
“The response we’ve had so far is good, and space is still available,” said Sullivan.
The camps, presented by New Balance footwear, are coming to Beverly Monday, July 29 to Friday, Aug. 2, and will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Shore Country Day School, located at 545 Cabot St.
Registration is $549 per child, per session. Participation in the camps is by space permitting, and intended for boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 13. Participants can enroll at redsox.com/camp. For more information, call the camp enrollment team at 617-279-0921.
