Celebrating its 25th anniversary, Arbella Insurance has donated a total of $1.25 million to 25 charities in New England, the insurance company announced Monday.

The total donation is evenly split among the organizations – $50,000 to each one, the company said. The 25 recipient nonprofits were selected from proposals submitted by Arbella employees, independent insurance agents and charitable partners. The nonprofits must be involved in social services, health or education.

Among the Boston-based nonprofits that are on Arbella’s list are Massachusetts Affordable Housing Alliance, Irish International Immigrant Center, Greater Boston Legal Services, Commonwealth Museum, and Boston College High School.

Arbella will present checks to the nonprofits during an event Tuesday afternoon at the Granite Links Golf Club.

This money is on top of the amount Arbella typically donates on an annual basis. Last year, Arbella donated $2.13 million and, while the total amount the insurance company will donate in 2013 is still being decided, it likely will be roughly the same, according to a spokeswoman for the company.
