UC staff member assaulted while walking to car off-campus

CLIFTON HEIGHTS, OH (FOX19) –

Police say a University of Cincinnati staff member was assaulted Wednesday afternoon while walking to his car parked off-campus.

It happened in the 2400 block of Ohio Avenue around 3:30 p.m. FOX19’s Cory Stark spoke with the 32-year-old victim, JP Leong, who says he’s worked at UC for five years.

Leong claims while walking to his car he was suddenly surrounded by a group of approximately 6-9 teenagers. He was first hit in the back of the head and then hit twice in the face before the suspects ran off.

There was no attempt at robbery during the incident.

Leong suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene. He says neighbors ran outside to help him when it happened.

According to police, the suspects have been described as black males, all wearing black shirts and khaki pants. Authorities believe they may have been students from the nearby Hughes High School. Cincinnati Police are now working with Hughes staff to possibly identify the suspects.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (513) 352-3040.
