At first glance, it would seem that locals have so much Hub innovation to celebrate that a mere week can’t contain this event — Boston Idea Week is set to run from Oct. 1 through Oct. 10 as it looks to bring together “change-makers, leaders, creative thinkers, entrepreneurs, and world-class college students,” the event’s organizers said in a media advisory.
Boston Idea Week will unfold in multiple venues, many of them in Boston’s so-called Innovation District.
One highlight is Boston Tech Jam, a block party of sorts that is scheduled to take place Thursday on the streets of the Innovation District. Plans call for a start-up pitch contest and a battle of tech bands. The hope is that Boston Tech Jam will provide a platform to connect students with entrepreneurs, business leaders, venture capitalists, and leading innovators, according to the media advisory.
In a statement, Peter Meade, the City of Boston’s chief economic development officer, offered an overview of Boston Idea Week.
“Boston’s idea economy is home to some of the world’s most talented designers, artists, entrepreneurs, and tech innovators,” Meade said. “Boston Idea Week will showcase the game-changing ideas happening in our city every day.”
In a separate statement, Paul Guzzi, president and chief executive of the Greater Boston Chamber, added: “Our regional economy has been fueled by a thriving innovation sector and access to an unmatched talent base through our world-class colleges and universities. Boston Idea Week is intended to celebrate our many successes as a global innovation center and foster greater connections among the students, entrepreneurs, and leaders who are critical to our sustained leadership in this area.”
